Craig Pomranz, a fixture on the international nightclub scene, will be returning to THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) with a new show, "The Ides Of March (Breaking Up Is The Thing To Do ... )" on Wednesdays, March 7th & 14th at 9:30 pm. NYC: MARK MURPHY 80TH BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION AT BIRDLAND

NYC: MARK MURPHY 80TH BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION AT BIRDLAND

One of the world's most respected jazz vocalists, Mark Murphy, will celebrate his 80th Birthday on Sunday, March 4th at BIRDLAND (315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080), with shows at 9:00 & 11:00 pm. Joining him on stage are George Mesterhazy (piano), Sean Smith (bass), Willard Dyson( drums). Murphy 's prolific career spans 50+ years and is most noted for his definitive and unique vocalese and vocal improvisations with both melody and lyrics. He is the recipient of numerous consecutive Downbeat Magazine Readers Jazz Poll for Best Male Vocalist of the Year as well as six Grammy Award Nominations for Best Vocal Jazz Performance. He is also known for his original lyrics to the jazz classics Stolen Moments and Red Clay. Time has been good to Murphy's voice: a rich, virile, attractively craggy bass-baritone, etched with the wisdom of a fifty-year journey. It's a sound that could have crept from the shadows of some smoky dive in a Robert Mitchum film noir. There is a $30 cover plus a $10 food/drink minimum.
