Joshua Redman is one of the most acclaimed and charismatic jazz artists to have emerged in the decade of the 1990s. Born in Berkeley, California, he is the son of legendary saxophonist Dewey Redman and dancer Renee Shedroff. He was exposed at an early age to a variety of musics (jazz, classical, rock, soul, Indian, Indonesian, Middle-Eastern, African) and instruments (recorder, piano, guitar, gatham, gamelan), and began playing clarinet at age nine before switching to what became his primary instrument, the tenor saxophone, one year later. Redman has been nominated for 2 Grammys and has garnered top honors in critics and readers polls of DownBeat, Jazz Times, The Village Voice and Rolling Stone. In this zany musical evening, custom fashioned for 54 Below, Ms. Feldshuh revisits the 1970s when she first came to Studio 54 and to Broadway. She also inhabits a gallery of hilarious characters, ages 8 to 80, comic and dramatic - who sing! The songlist includes Broadway classics from Bernstein, Styne, and Gershwin to contemporary artists Dar Williams and Craig Carnelia. For these three special performances, Tovah will be joined by Broadway's Jesse Kissel on piano. She has been called "...the greatest cabaret performer of her generation, an urban poet who writes like an angel and has a voice to match." Her name first came to the attention of the music public when Bette Midler's version of Amanda's song THE ROSE hit number one all over the world in 1979. But it was Amanda's performance of her own song on the Golden Globes (she won), Grammys (she didn't) and The Tonight Show that launched her career as a singer as well as songwriter. Her songs have have been recorded by the likes of Bette Midler, Leanne Rimes, Barry Manilow, Judy Collins, Barbara Cook, Anne Murray, Harry Belafonte, Betty Buckley, Stephanie Mills, The Manhattan Transfer, Donny Osmond, the Chipmunks, and the Baby Dinosaurs in LAND BEFORE TIME (she wrote all the songs for 11 Universal Cartoon videos with longtime collaborator Michele Brourman). The Lou Donaldson Organ Quartet performs atBIRDLAND (315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080 - ) Tuesday through Saturday, February 5th through 9th with shows at 8:30 & 11:00 pm. Jazz critics agree that "Sweet Poppa Lou" Donaldson is one of the greatest alto saxophonists of all time. He began his career as a bandleader with Blue Note Records in 1952 and, already at age 25, he had found his sound, though it would continue to sweeten over the years, earning him his famed nickname "Sweet Poppa Lou." He made a series of classic records for Blue Note in the 50s, and takes pride in having showcased many musicians who made their first records as sidemen for him: Horace Silver, Clifford Brown, Grant Green, Blue Mitchell, Donald Byrd, Horace Parlan, and others. After also making some excellent recordings for Cadet and Argo Records in the early 60s, Lou's return to Blue Note in 1967 was marked by one of his most famous recordings, Alligator Bogaloo. Lou was awarded an honorary Doctorate of Letters by North Carolina A & T University and a scholarship was established in his name that is awarded to the most gifted jazz musician at North Carolina A & T University each year. He was inducted into the International Jazz Hall of Fame and is the recipient of countless other honors and awards for his outstanding contributions to jazz, America's "classical music." The Episcopal Actors' Guild of America, Inc. and The Lambs Clubpresent Music from the Lambs on Thursday, February 7th at 7:00 pm atGUILD HALL (1 East 29th Street, NYC - 212-685-2927). The Lambs Club, America's oldest professional theater club, brings their tradition of song and merriment to Guild Hall for a concert benefitting the Emergency Aid & Relief Program of The Episcopal Actors' Guild. Founded in Delmonico's Restaurant in 1874, The Lambs Club remains active, meeting every Friday night for their popular "Low Jinks" concert series, held in their historic space at 3 West 51st Street, NYC. For this event, Lambs Club cabaret veterans will perform their favorite hits from the American songbook, with all proceeds going to help local actors in need. This concert also offers the unique opportunity to hear this wonderful music inside EAG's intimate, historic theatre space atop the landmark Little Church on 29th Street. Scheduled to perform are Marc Baron, Gini Dustin, Linda Fields, Rita Hammer, James Martinelli, Elizabeth Schwartz, and Frank Torren. Paul Chamlin will sing and serve as the accompanist. The night's MC is Scott Glascock. This event will be followed by a wine and cheese reception. There is a suggested donation of $15 ($10 for members).

Pia Zadora, Golden Globe winner, Grammy nominee, ShowWest winner, accomplished singer, film and Broadway star will perform atTHE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) on Thursday through Sunday, February 7th through 10th. Showtimes are 7:00 pm on Thursday; 7L00 & 9:30 on Friday; 9:30 pm on Saturday; and 4:30 pm on Sunday. With her many and varied talents, Pia's true love has always been singing, and in 1985, she launched a successful music career with her first standards album, "Pia & Phil", recorded with the London Philharmonic. Pia then embarked on a worldwide tour performing at Carnegie Hall, The Philadelphia Academy of Music, The Kennedy Center, Radio City Music Hall and The London Palladium, as well as with symphonies throughout the United States and Canada. This show was created by three-time Emmy winning director and choreographer Walter Painter, Emmy-nominated Academy Award writer Jon Macks, and six-time Emmy Award and Peabody winning composer Larry Grossman. Pia's new show features the greatest songs ever performed, laughs and pure non-stop entertainment. Accompanied by legendary Sinatra pianist and musical conductor Vinnie Falcone and his orchestra, Pia performs classics such as "The Lady Is a Tramp", "Come Rain or Shine", "All of Me", "Young at Heart" and "The Man That Got Away". Patti Issues will be performed by Ben Rimalower at THE DUPLEX CABARET THEATRE (61 Christopher Street, NYC - 212-255-5438) on Thursdays, February 7th, 14th, 21st & 28th at 7:00 pm. Patti Issues mark's Rimalower's debut as a playwright and performer, after serving as the director of numerous Off-Broadway plays, concerts and all-star benefits (and blogging for the Huffington Post). With a mix of comic irreverence, stark candor and show-biz bravado, Patti Issues poignantly explores the challenges facing LGBT parents and children while shining unique light on gay men's time-old obsessions with divas. When Ben Rimalower was eight years old, his father came out of the closet and embarked on a drug-fueled tear that left his family in tatters. Amid the chaos of his young life, Ben found comfort - like so many gay boys before him and after - in musical theater, and specifically in the transportive voice of Broadway star Patti LuPone. "Careless Rhapsody: An Evening Dedicated to the Lyrics of Lorenz Hart" will be presented at 54 BELOW (254 West 54th Street, NYC - 646-476-3551) on Monday, February 4th at 7:00 pm; Thursday, February 7th at 9:30 pm; and Tuesday & Wednesday, February 26th & 27th at 7:00 pm. Arthur Masella serves as director; Don Rebic, musical director and on Dick Scarpola, bass. In "Careless Rhapsody," award-winning vocalist, director and Broadway actor (The Frogs, Sweet Smell of Success, and Kiss Me, Kate) Eric Michael Gillett uses the wit and wisdom of Lorenz Hart to remind us all that, though love can be be experienced with abandon, to be careless with the heart can also have a price. George Balanchine called Lorenz Hart the "Shelley of America" and, it's true, his lyric writing ranks with the greatest romantic poetry of all time. Though he, himself, was unlucky in love, his writing casts a spell that will always survive the test of time, inspiring generations of lovers to come to follow their hearts. Eric Michael Gillett is a MAC and Bistro Award winning vocalist whose own cabaret shows have included "Cast of Thousands: The Songs of Craig Carnelia" (for which Eric was named MAC's Major Male Vocalist of 2012); "It Takes Two: The Duets of Stephen Sondheim" (with Melanie Vaughan); "Best of My Love," and his critically-lauded collection of radio songs of the past forty years, "Hook, Line, and Singer." The Branford Marsalis Quartet, in addition to Branford, is ,ade up of Joey Calderazzo on piano, Eric Revis on bass, and Justin Faulkner on drums. NEA Jazz Master, renowned Grammy Award-winning saxophonist and Tony Award nominee Branford Marsalis is one of the most revered instrumentalists of his time. Leader of one of the finest jazz quartets today, and a frequent soloist with classical ensembles, Marsalis and his Quartet of musical friends recently released Four MFs Playin' Tunes. Jeff Harnar, one of the most celebrated performers of the American Popular Songbook, will return to THE WEST BANK CAFE/LAURIE BEECHMAN THEATRE (407 West 42nd Street, NYC - 212-695-6909) in his show "Does This Song Make Me Look Fat? (Lighter Fare for a Winter Night)". Performances are on four Monday nights at 7:00 pm, January 14th, 21st and 28th and Friday, February 8th. Harnar recently was awarded the 2012 Noel Coward Foundation Cabaret Award, as well as two MAC (Manhattan Association of Cabarets & Clubs) Awards and three Back Stage Bistro Awards. This new show - featuring Music Director Lawrence Yurman on piano, Jered Egan on bass and Ray Marchica on drums - will highlight the wit of Noel Coward, Cole Porter, Sammy Cahn, Comden & Green, Tom Lehrer, Allan Sherman, Stan Freberg, Rick Crom, Larry Kerchner, Francesca Blumenthal and more. Harnar has made appearances at the Carnegie Hall, the Oak Room, Feinstein's at Loews Regency, The Metropolitan Room, Town Hall, and has hosted three seasons of The American Songbook in London at The Jermyn Street Theatre. Carnegie Hall appearances include both the Cole Porter and Noel Coward Centennial Galas, a solo concert at Weill Recital and as Michael Feinstein's special guest at Zankel Hall. Jeff headlined three Town Hall concerts, including a Cole Porter evening with Andrea Marcovicci. He has appeared in thirteen "Lyrics & Lyricists" concerts, serving as artistic director and host for one. There is a $25 cover plus a $15 food/drink minimum.
